An easy, out-and-back, 3.2-mile trail just outside of Anchorage, in Portage Valley. A great day hike for families with children. The trail parallels a creek that is scenic and fun to explore along the way. Snowfields remaining from the winter offer a chance for a summer snowball fight. Use caution when viewing ice caves.

Dogs: Welcome, on a leash.

Parking: All Chugach State Park trails require a day-use parking pass or parking decal.

As with all trails in Alaska, hikers should be prepared, dress in layers, and bring plenty of water, snacks, sunscreen, a map of the area, bear spray, and a well-charged cell phone.
