Adrenaline Activities
Alaska is an adventure paradise. Get a surge of summertime adrenaline with activities like hiking, soaring over Alaska, or even hanging ten on a massive tidal change, all of these being possible only under the midnight sun.
Morning
Rent a bike or take a scenic hike on our countless trails, only minutes away from comfortable hotels and a diverse range of restaurants. From fine dining serving fresh, savory seafood to hidden gems dishing out hearty comfort foods, there’s always a place nearby that hits the spot.
Ride the Alyeska Resort aerial tram up the mountainside and hike to the edge of Alyeska Glacier in Girdwood. Gear up and get your first footsteps onto the ice. The trip includes interpretive glaciology discussions and gear, as well as beautiful views of Turnagain Arm and town below.
Afternoon
The area is often called Glacier City, so visit another! Flightseeing tours take off from Girdwood for views of Colony, Whiteout and Lake George glaciers, just to name a few. Touch down and see just how big an Alaska glacier can be before winging your way back to the helipad. Keep a sharp eye for wildlife on the return; moose, Dall sheep and bears frequent the area.
Heighten your sense of adventure even more at the Veilbreaker Skybridges, where crossing a 2500 ft bridge above land offers a range of majestic views of Turnagain Arm, hanging glaciers, and the boreal forest of Anchorage’s backyard, the Chugach Mountains.
Evening
Surfing in Alaska? Look out for adventure enthusiasts catching a wave on the bore tide in Turnagain Arm. This large wave might roll past in the other direction as you make your way back to your hotel. Trade tales of your exhilarating adventures over dinner at an Anchorage restaurant.
Go rafting, kayaking, or take a serene excursion to see Alaska wildlife like moose, Dall sheep, and eagles. Enjoy crisp, stunning blue waters just north of the city at Eklutna Lake or south with incredible views of Turnagain Arm on the way to Portage Glacier, the region's most accessible glacier.
The Chugach
Whether you're exploring via flat, scenic footpaths or breathtaking backcountry hiking trails, the Chugach Mountains offer unforgettable access to Alaska's natural splendor.
