Anchorage Mushing District Inc.
The Mushing District will encompass 4th Avenue between C and F Streets and will include informational/interpretive signage creating a walking museum that describes the history of sled dog use in Alaska. Banners and plaques will be hung and mounted celebrating famous sled dogs and mushers such as George Attla, Joe Reddington, and many more. A Mushing Hall of Fame will be housed in the Fur Rondy shop on 4th Ave. Contact Anchoragemushingdistrict.org to purchase your commemorative bronze dog paw which will be embedded in the sidewalks of the Mushing District. Located at the start line of the Iditarod and the World Championship Sled Dog Races, the focal point of the Mushing District will be a steel truss arch with the silhouette of a dog team and musher racing across the arch. Through this visual and educational presentation of Mushing, the Anchorage Mushing District will become a major tourist attraction, economic stimulus for downtown, and an iconic signature for Anchorage, much like the Saint Louis Gateway Arch.
