Anchorage is brimming with family fun and kid-friendly activities. Our favorites? It’s almost impossible to pick, so we asked for a few recommendations from a local expert — Anchorage mom, photographer, and outdoor ambassador Brenda Hower.

Follow along with this mini-itinerary perfect for pint-sized explorers.

  1. Potter Marsh Boardwalk: “We love searching for wildlife and a variety of birds as we walk on the boardwalk at Potter Marsh. We love to watch Rabbit Creek flow under the boardwalk. It also has an amazing panoramic view of the Turnagain Arm! Great, short trail for little legs with bathrooms at the parking lot.”

  2. Ice Skating at Westchester Lagoon: “Ice skating on the oval at Westchester is one of our favorite winter activities! It is maintained by the city and hot mopped daily. There’s a park and the Coastal Trail nearby that we love to explore as well! Our double stroller for the baby and toddler work well on the ice for when the toddler is done skating. You can rent ice skates from Play It Again Sports.”

  3. Behind the Bit: “They offer 30-minute toddler lessons which are perfect for any young horse lover! He learned how to brush, care for, respect, and ride his pony Cali. The staff were amazing and they are located in Chugiak.”

  4. Alaska Zoo: “We love visiting the animals at the Alaska Zoo, there is something new to see and learn every time! My son’s favorite animals to visit are the musk oxen, alpacas, and tigers. We love seeing the different enrichment activities the animals get to engage in.”

  5. Benji's Bakery & Cafe: “We love to stop by Benji’s Bakery on our way to our adventures, and pick up a cruffin (croissant/muffin) or milk tea with boba.” (Click here to find more delicious options).
