The ongoing coronavirus pandemic has brought a sea change to Alaska’s 2020 cruise season: On April 9, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention indefinitely extended a No Sail Order for all cruise ships, and the Canadian government has closed all ports to cruise travel until July 1.

Faced with port closures and sailing bans, companies are suspending hundreds of sailings and, in some cases, cancelling this year’s season altogether. Princess Cruises has announced the cancellation of all Alaska Gulf cruises and cruisetours for 2020, and Holland America Line has canceled its 2020 Alaska sailings on the Maasdam, Volendam, Oosterdam, Noordam, and Westerdam. Viking Ocean Cruises has suspended operations through June 30, and Royal Carribean has paused sailings through June 11.
