New flights to Anchorage are part of Delta Air Lines' strategy to focus on "outdoor-oriented" destinations, Travel Weekly reports.

"The carrier will launch new daily service to Anchorage from Salt Lake City on May 5 and weekend service to Anchorage from Detroit, Los Angeles and New York JFK on May 28," the travel trade publication reports. "In addition, Delta will resume service between Atlanta and Anchorage and increase service to Anchorage from Seattle and Minneapolis."

In a release, Delta called the expansion "significant."

“Delta is looking forward to offering more premier outdoor destinations this summer, including more options to travel to the beautiful state of Alaska,” said Joe Esposito, Delta’s S.V.P. – Network Planning.
