April 2022 was the best April for demand and revenue on record. Hotels reported $22 million in gross revenue, a 35% increase from 2021. April typically sees a small dip in demand compared to March, and that pattern remained this year, even with better than usual performance for an April. Still, with occupancy above 65% in April, and rates remaining solid, the month continued growth.

Interestingly, so far this year Friday and Saturday tend to be the best performing nights for hotels, as they were in 2021. From 2013 to 2019, midweek performed better. In many cities, better midweek performance is typically an indicator of business travel. In anchorage however, some of these midweek stays were related to the cruise ship patterns in Southcentral. We will have to wait to see if this recent trend holds later this summer, or if performance reverts to more midweek business.
