Overview
130+ animals representing 49 species. Home to the largest variety of Alaska wildlife in the state including polar and brown bears, moose, wolves, caribou, musk ox, arctic fox and more. The Alaska Zoo invites you to take a walk on the wild side! The Zoo is located 15 minutes south of downtown Anchorage in a park like setting.
The Zoo is a private, nonprofit providing a home for orphaned, injured and endangered animals. While it is a great place to “wander and watch,” many visitors take advantage of the “discovery tour,” a guided behind-the-scenes program available daily in June, July and August. Check out the summer Tuesday night lecture series on animal related topics and the Friday night live music on the lawn.
Open year round, hours vary according to the season. For current hours of operation, call the Zoo information recording at: 907-346-3242. For more information about the Alaska Zoo, visit our website at www.alaskazoo.org
