Alaska's FIRST sea kayak outfitter since 1981. Rentals and Tours. Trained guides for an unforgettable paddle into Prince William Sound, the jewel of Alaska! Most of our business is outfitting Sound Paddlers on their own adventure from a two day overnighter to expeditions lasting two months! Knowledgeable individuals and organized groups use us to outfit their needs with sound kayaks and sound advice to support their destination. Besides having top of the line fiberglass kayaks to paddle, the quality continues with Werner Furrer Premium paddles, Snap Dragon vinyl waterproof spray skirts, Extrasport PFD's, safety gear of a paddle float and bilge pump and always a sponge. Located away from the harbor congestion, we operate out of the old gymnasium (back when the military built Whittier), now turned boathouse winter storage. In the summer, the boats are gone and we have the room to outfit large groups inside the boathouse, out of the weather if need be. Having a bouldering wall, basketball, ping pong and couches to read old climbing magazines, groups often spend the night and prepare for a morning departure. Our map wall is also studied my the guides and clients together which is helpful is deciding final logistics. Having a group leader is needed, but work your plans as a group. Giving excellent service, we'll fit everyone into their kayak. You'll know about your hatch system and the workings of the rudder system. After everyone is fitted, one of the crew will do a orientation about properly getting "into" and "out of" the kayak, using your rubber boots and keeping the kayak off the beach rocks. They will talk about group carrying tips before the safety talk with group and self rescue demonstration in the boathouse. When you're ready, we pull the van & trailer in, load up, and take you to what logistic starts your adventure. Using a water taxi OR paddling out from a beach, both can have 4 options of locations. So good service takes advantage of Alaska's logistics.
