Experience the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race™. Learn about The Last Great Race® by visiting our Headquarters with race displays, video room and gift shop in Wasilla. No fee. Open year round. Current 2020 summer hours 9 to 5, 7 days a week. Winter hours 9 to 5, Monday through Friday. The Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race™ started in 1973 and covers 1,000 miles across Alaska from Anchorage to Nome. Each year on the first Saturday in March thousands of fans gather in downtown Anchorage to see mushers and their dog teams leave the starting line. Headquarters is located on Knik Goose Bay Road, driveway is on the right just past mile marker 2.
