Experience the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race™! Learn about The Last Great Race® by visiting our Headquarters/gift shop/video room, open year-round. Summer hrs. 8 to 7 daily. Or ride a cart with dog team, 9 to 5 daily (summer only). Winter hrs. 8 to 5, Mon. through Fri. The Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race™ started in 1973 and covers 1,000 miles across Alaska and begins on the first Saturday of March. Each year in downtown Anchorage, thousands of fans gather to see 60 plus mushers and their dog teams leave the starting line headed for Nome. To learn and see more about the Iditarod® Race, visit the headquarters building in Wasilla, open all year. During the summer the race gift shop/visitor area is open every day and sled dogs are on site. Enjoy a visit with a veteran Iditarod® musher and ride behind a dog mushing team.
