In a nutshell, this service provides a 30-mile (low key) circuit tour of Anchorage and an unguided mountain hike above it. Here is how it works. A 15-person passenger van departs downtown at (or slightly before) 1 pm. We drive 16-miles through the university to the Glen Alps parking lot in Chugach State Park. Van remains parked from 1:30 to 4 while you hike. Hike at your own pace. On average it takes one hour to summit allowing most people half an hour to walk around the mountain's flat top and then an hour to descend. We meet back at the van at or before 4 pm. Van takes a different/faster return route (past the zoo) to downtown. No deposit to reserve your seat; just call to cancel if your plans change. Shuttle customers receive a $2 discount on a rental bike at Downtown Bicycle Rental which is where the van departs from and returns to. (4th Avenue & C Street.) Midtown pickup/drop-off available upon request at the public library on 36th Avenue & Denali. If requested, on the return trip, we can drop you off at the Alaska Zoo. The zoo has a free hourly shuttle to and from downtown. It is open until 9 p.m. Admission is $15. Seasonal service from May 1 - October 31. There is only one shuttle each day. Operating under commercial permit issued by Chugach State Park which requires a $1 per person user fee/tax that is included in the $23 per person rate.
