Alaska Mushing School
Go on a dogsled ride with an experienced guide, or learn how to drive your own team in a 1/2 day mushing school. Shuttle available from Anchorage. B&B onsite, custom options available, including private groups. Day tours typically operate from Iditarod champion Martin Buser's Happy Trails Kennel. Our classic dogsled ride option is one where you ride in comfort in the sled while an experienced guide/musher drives the team. Watch or even help (up to you!) hook up a rambunctious team of sled dogs, then have a seat and hold on, or stand and get the musher's point of view from the custom rear passenger position and/or tagsled. Our 1/2 day mushing school is a completely unique opportunity where you become a real dog musher and drive your own sled, pulled by your very own team of Alaskan Huskies. First, you learn the role of each dog in the team, what the commands are, as well as the parts of a dogsled and how everything works. Next, you practice the basics of driving a sled before we hook up any dogs. Finally, you get to feel the power of driving your own team on a five-mile journey on the same trails we use to train for the Iditarod and other races! If you are interested in private or corporate group reservations, we can help you out, too. Contact us with details and we will be happy to work something out. We can offer group lodging and tours for up to eight people at the same location - let us know!
