The Alaska Veterans Museum will have a free day in celebration of Veterans Day. The Museum has 10 rooms, 2400 sq ft of Alaskan history. The museum exists to preserve, honor, and share Alaska's unique military history and continue the mission to remember and honor the service of our military members and inspire & educate future generations. Our exhibits include the Alaska Territorial Guard, the Alaska Scouts, the Black Wolf Squadron, the Tlingit Code Talkers, the Japanese bombing of Alaska at Dutch Harbor and the occupation on the islands of Attu and Kiska, the Aleutian Islands campaigns, the building of the Alaska Canada (ALCAN) highway, and the US-Russian Lend-Lease program. Significant, is the Confederate ship Shenandoah sinking of 38 ships, devasting the whaling industry and initiating the sale discussions of Alaska from the Russians. These national treasurers tell the story of courage and sacrifice that shaped Alaska and influenced the world. The museum is a 501 (C)(3) nonprofit, and 100% volunteer-run organization. Take time out of your day and come visit us.
