Catch a free Alaska presentation at the Alaska Public Lands Information Center. Wide ranging, informative and even surprising, the topics vary and span Alaska from end to end. Subjects change frequently, but fall into themes by day of the week.
All programs begin at 2 p.m. and are free to the public. Call to ensure run dates for a specific program.
Sundays: Ranger Program - Join an NPS park ranger to discover their favorite stories in Alaska's science, history, and culture. Program topics are TBA and change frequently.
Mondays: No One Eats Like We Do - Today, as in the past, many Alaskans live off the land, relying on fish, wildlife and other wild resources. Subsistence, and all it entails, is critical to sustaining both the physical and spiritual culture of Alaska Native peoples. It is an important tradition for many non-Native people as well.
Tuesdays: Stories from the Forest - Inspired by the 75th Anniversary of Smokey Bear in the US Forest Service, join us on Tuesdays to celebrate the history, culture, science, and wonder found within our National Forests.
Wednesdays: Women in the Wilderness - Join us on Wednesdays to celebrate the acheivments and contributions women in Alaska have made to science, wilderness, and history.
Thursdays: Alaska Zoo Programs - Meet live animals from the Alaska Zoo! Animal handlers discuss the biology of a featured animal. Featured animals have included: red fox, porcupine, moose, musk ox, wolf pups, sea otter, and a dall sheep lamb.
Fridays: Coffee with a Scientist - What goes great with coffee? Science! Join a scientist each week for a special program about various Alaskan science topics including, but not limited to; glaciers, volcanology, wolf biology, archaeology, climate change, plant physiology, and wildland fire science. Refreshments will be served.
Saturdays: Bird TLC Live Bird Demo - Visit with a Bird Treatment and Learning Center presenter and a live Alaskan bird! Bird handlers discuss bird life, habits, and habitat while you view a feathered friend up close and personal.
