If travel plans are temporarily paused, consider a virtual visit to Anchorage: Here are a few livestreamed or interactive looks at some of Anchorage’s most iconic angles and institutions.

Town Square Park: Transport yourself to the heart of downtown via this livestream view of Town Square Park, provided via Borealis Broadband. Visitors can spot everything from holiday lights to urban wildlife as the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts towers in the background.

Fourth Avenue: Home to Historic City Hall, Visit Anchorage Log Cabin Visitor Information Center, Summer Solstice Festival, the ceremonial start of the Iditarod, and more, Fourth Avenue runs through the center of downtown Anchorage. This livestreamed view offers visitors a front-row seat — if you look closely, you can spot the city’s celebrated statue of Balto himself.

Ship Creek: A few blocks north of Fourth Avenue, Ship Creek is Anchorage’s favorite urban fishing site. In the summer, anglers pull in massive king salmon just steps from downtown. In the winter, viewers can watch sheets of Cook Inlet ice crack and break along the creek bed.

Anchorage Museum: Elements of the Anchorage Museum are viewable online. Start here, with these collections from “ILATKA: The Inuit Word For My Relatives.”

Lake Hood: The busiest seaplane base in the country, Lake Hood is home to hundreds of aircraft and — when the weather is right — picture-perfect views of the Alaska Range and other surrounding mountains. Tune in to this livestream to watch for planes, mountains, and the occasional northern lights or moose spotting.

Alaska Aviation Museum: Alaska has more planes and pilots per capita than anywhere else in the country, and the state's rich history of aviation is on full display at the Alaska Aviation Museum on the shores of Lake Hood. Virtual visitors can explore dozens of exhibit aircraft online.

The Alaska Zoo: The Alaska Zoo’s polar bear webcam offers a live look at one of its most beloved residents — even when the zoo itself is closed to the public. Watch Cranberry frolic with ravens, stroll her enclosure, nap, and play.

Glen Alps Webcam: Powered by the State of Alaska Department of Natural Resources, the Glen Alps webcam provides a real-time view of one of Chugach State Park’s most popular trailheads.

Seward Highway: The scenic Seward Highway runs south from Anchorage, curving along the edge of Chugach State Park and the Turnagain Arm coast, all the way down to the city of Seward on the Kenai Peninsula. Travelers pass lush forests, jagged peaks, calm lakes, and fog-filled mountain passes. You can see it all via Google Streetview.
