Wednesday, July 25, 2018

Enjoy learning about Alaska and sharing it with others? Become a museum docent. The Anchorage Museum seeks curious, engaged members of the Anchorage community to join the museum as volunteer docents. Docents give tours, facilitate gallery experiences and interpret exhibitions through dialogue with museum visitors. Anchorage Museum docents are:

  • Welcomers - Docents support all visitors in feeling welcome and comfortable
  • Connectors - Docents invite visitors to make connections to Alaska and the North
  • Change-Makers - Docents help foster dialogue, expand perspectives and build understanding of Alaska and the North

“Visitors of all ages and cultures visit the museum annually,” says Hollis Mickey director of learning and engagement for the Anchorage Museum. “We’re looking for a diverse group of volunteers to welcome and to share the museum experience with them.”

The first step to joining this dynamic community of professionals, creatives, educators and life-long learners is to complete the online application at www.anchoragemuseum.org. Bilingual and multilingual applicants are encouraged to apply. To learn more about the museum’s docent program, attend an introductory session at noon or 5:15 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2018; email ademma@anchordagemuseum.org or call (907) 929-9249.
