Hiring for: Operations Assistant/Gear Guru

Job Description:

At SBT, we pride ourselves on a workforce made up of Alaskans. Therefore, all employees are permanent residents of Alaska while employed with us. The Operations Assistant/Gear Guru is responsible for conducting themselves in a way that positively represents Salmon Berry and Alaska tourism as an industry. Salmon Berry’s core is providing excellent service for our guests. We want to make sure their needs are met, and are as comfortable as possible. The Operations Assistant/Gear Guru’s job is very important as what they can provide to the guest can affect their entire experience. The Gear Guru is responsible for managing all the gear! We have a gear rental program in the winter where our multiday guests can rent gear for the duration of their trip. The Gear Guru manages the gear sizing form, gear inventory, bag packing and delivering, receiving and unpacking, assessing gear for cleanliness and damage, communication with sales, guests, and guides to manage where and when gear is coming or going. In addition to the gear, The Gear Guru is in charge of the welcome gifts, letters, and delivering of welcome bags year-round to local hotels.

In addition to the Gear Guru responsibilities, the Operations Assistant has the following responsibilities, including but not limited to:

● Auditing driver logs every Monday

● Refreshing and Maintaining Kid Packs

● Creating and Delivering Welcome Bags

● Filling Gold Vials

● Upkeep of Plants in the Office

● Restocking Office Bathroom Supplies

● Taking out Trash from Office

● Management of the shop inventory of supplies, washing and restocking shop towels, hauling trash/recycling to the office for disposal

● Transporting vehicles to/from Mechanic Appointments

● Other duties as assigned with the above mentioned responsibilities, the candidate will need to be a task master and ready and able to jump in on other duties as assigned and be willing to work with a team.

Job Requirements:

To be the Operations Assistant/Gear Guru, candidate should be at least 21 years of age. A successful applicant will have a background check free of felony and anything related to theft, vandalism or violence. Applicants must have a reliable vehicle and a means to deliver up to 6-7 large duffel bags at a time, and the physical abilities to carry at least one at a time, or more. Candidate must also be proficient in using computers/technology and willing to learn Google Sheets, Docs, and other applications. Some vehicle knowledge is a bonus, but not required.

Schedule:

Thursday through Monday Eight hours per day, 7am to 4pm with a lunch break This is a year round position with a focus on gear November through April, when final gear bags are returned and gear is cleaned and inventoried to close out the winter season.

The Operations Assistant/Gear Guru is paid hourly. Anything over 8 hours a day is paid at time and a half for overtime, as well as anything over 40 ST hours per week. Sick pay is accrued based on hours worked and vacation time will begin to accrue after the initial probationary period. 401k benefits also available after 1 year and 1,000 hours worked.
