Membership & Advertising Sales Manager - Visit Anchorage

Position Summary

In accordance with the Visit Anchorage mission, this position works under the direct supervision of the Vice President, Membership & Destination Services (MDS), and works independently to obtain and retain members and sell advertising in all forms to members, exercising initiative and judgment on a regular basis.

Essential Job Functions

  • Will proactively increase member sales and retention. Develops new member leads and conducts membership sales presentations to qualified potential members. This individual will establish relationships with member businesses through email contact, personal on-site visits and/or through telephone contact. The individual will assist members with maximizing the value of their membership by ensuring that information in their profile is up-to-date; encouraging them to participate in member events; providing information on marketing tools, educational opportunities and networking opportunities available through their membership. This person will also ensure that membership dues are paid in a timely manner by following structured billing and collections procedures.
  • Responsible for print and online ad sales on Anchorage.net and in the Anchorage Visitors Guide, Restaurant & Entertainment Guide, Meeting Planner Guide and other Visit Anchorage products and publications. Fully explains benefits and procedures of advertising to members and assists members in selecting appropriate advertising opportunities. Prepares and executes contracts including the timely collection of payment.
  • Secures sponsorships for Visit Anchorage events and promotions including the Annual Seymour Awards Banquet, Charity Open House and other member events.
  • Coordinate and/or assist with MOS events and programs, including monthly luncheons, orientations, business exchanges, annual banquet, open house, Frontline Trade Show, and other events and programs.
  • Contribute to the MDS annual plan and goals, executes and practices budget control for specific projects as assigned
  • Model the Visit Anchorage Core Values in the performance of all job functions
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

  • At least three years of in-depth sales experience and skills in a tourism focused and/or membership driven organization or other relevant experience
  • In-depth knowledge of varied requirements and characteristics of client base including Visit Anchorage members and local and regional business
  • Demonstrated effective time management skills, organizational skills, self-motivation, flexibility, and ability to manage multiple projects
  • Excellent oral communication skills and ability to speak one-on-one or to groups, in person as well as by phone; work requires people interaction skills, heavy public contact, and ability to work with numerous personalities, crowds and pressure
  • Excellent written communication skills to compose, edit and proof advertisements, copy, business correspondence, and reports
  • Advanced computer skills with a major emphasis on file maintenance including working knowledge of MS Windows, MS Office 2013, CRM software (Simpleview), and other relevant software
  • Working knowledge of, and ability to perform basic troubleshooting for, standard office equipment including, fax machines, phones, copier, and scanners
  • Analytical ability necessary to handle moderately complex administrative details, such as preparing special reports by combining data from several different sources and scheduling and planning work around others
  • Position requires commitment to, knowledge of, and passion for Visit Anchorage programs and Anchorage product
  • Ability to type 45 wpm with accuracy
  • Work requires a valid driver's license
