Alyeska Resort is pleased to announce the promotion of Chef Aaron Apling-Gilman to Resort Executive Chef position. Chef Aaron has worked at Alyeska Resort since May 2011. He has filled a variety of roles including Sous Chef, Chef de Cuisine, Head Chef and GM/Chef of Seven Glaciers. He has also worked in many different outlets and departments including the Aurora Bar & Grill, Pastry, Security and the Storeroom. Chef Aaron has been nominated for multiple awards including Employee of the Quarter and Stars of the Industry. During his time at Seven Glaciers, he and his team have elevated the level of service and created menus highlighting the bounty of Alaska. His focus on the fine dining experience has resulted in Seven Glaciers receiving multiple recognitions such as the AAA Four Diamond, Wine Enthusiast, Diners Choice, and Wine Spectator Awards. Seven Glaciers recently received the honor of Wine Enthusiast Best 100 Wine Restaurants in the United States for 2019.
"From day one, Aaron has proven himself to be a passionate chef, focused on providing a uniquely Alaskan experience to our guests,” Explains Jason Porter, Director of Food & Beverage. “From building relationships with local farmers, sourcing local seafood and game to mentoring high school students for a culinary skills competition, Chef Aaron is a champion of the Alaska food scene. I am excited to see where his skills and drive takes the Alyeska culinary team."
Chef Aaron graduated with honors from the Western Culinary Institute in Portland, Oregon. He is an avid fisherman and hunter, and also enjoys foraging when time allows. Chef Aaron also enjoys spending time snowboarding and snowmachining in the winter.
