Central Student Wins Big Wild Life™ Trivia Contest

Need to know the name of the boat cruising Portage Lake? Not sure how many bird species are native to Anchorage? You might want to ask seventh grader Jaydon Skinner-Daly of Central Middle School. He won the 2011 Big Wild Life™ Trivia Contest and a grand prize package that includes a Whale Watch Tour for two with Kenai Fjords Tours, a behind the scenes tour of the Alaska SeaLife Center and gift cards for the 5th Avenue Mall and Uncle Joe's Pizzeria.

The annual contest took place at the William A. Egan Civic & Convention Center on Nov. 15, 2011 and tested seventh graders from across the city on Anchorage’s geography, history and attractions, as well as the local economic impacts and benefits of the visitor industry.

That is not the only learning fostered by the event, however. Students in the School Business Partnership class at Central Middle School do all the behind-the-scenes work, booking the Egan Center, planning the event, serving as timekeepers, and even donning the Visit Anchorage critter costumes.

There’s a lot of ink on Anchorage. Read up on recent awards, find out which activities are hot and get news on new attractions, exhibits and experiences.
