Memorable Meetings Begin in Anchorage
Anchorage, Alaska, is the perfect backdrop for a successful meeting or convention. The state of Alaska conjures up images of untouched wilderness and unparalleled beauty. It is called the “Last Frontier” and remains one of the United States’ most beautiful, expansive places. For most people, Alaska is a place they’ve always wanted to go. Hold a meeting in Anchorage and not only will delegates have the drop dead, gorgeous backdrop of Alaska’s wilderness, but they will also enjoy the state’s largest city. With two convention centers, more than 8,000 luxurious hotel rooms, an eclectic mix of high-end eateries, world class museums and art galleries, and no sales tax, delegates will be pleasantly surprised to learn they don’t have to sacrifice anything in order to enjoy Alaska.
Anchorage is a bustling, diverse city. It has great public art – both indoors and out. During the summer, visitors are overwhelmed by the number of flowers planted throughout the city. Hanging baskets line downtown streets and flowerbeds overflow along sidewalks. Winter greets delegates with a snowy wonderland and mild coastal temperatures warmer than in interior Alaska or even other northern U.S. states. In February, daytime temperatures approach forty degrees, with overnight temperatures dropping into the low twenties. Even the precipitation is often less in winter compared to the summer and autumn seasons, though the city is used to snow. Streets are cleared quickly and sidewalks in the downtown area are swept clean. Because of the reflective nature of the snow, it seems light--even at night. Streetlights are bright, and many of Anchorage’s trees are strung with bright, white lights, which lends itself to an atmosphere of an extended winter holiday. Ice rinks are plowed and maintained, and cross-country ski trails weave in and out of downtown and extend throughout the Municipality of Anchorage.

From a financial perspective, our Anchorage meeting set a new record for profit! We were all quite surprised because we thought costs would be higher in Anchorage. We beat our previous record for meeting profits by nearly $40,000! Anchorage is clearly cost-competitive for large meetings … The beauty of Alaska combined with the modern hotel and convention facilities made our 2011 meeting truly memorable.
