Chasing the Midnight Sun
Alaska is an adventure paradise! Get a surge of summertime adrenaline in Anchorage. Climbing, soaring over Alaska or even hanging ten on a massive tidal change is possible only under the midnight sun!
Day 1 Adrenaline Factor
Explore a glacier! Ride the Alyeska Resort aerial tram up the mountainside and hike to the edge of Alyeska Glacier in Girdwood. Gear up with crampons and ropes and head out onto the glacier itself for an up-close look at crevasses and other features of the stunning ice formation. The trip includes interpretive glaciology discussions and gear, as well as beautiful views of Turnagain Arm and town below.
Get back to sea level the way eagles do; paraglide off Mount Alyeska and down to the valley floor for a soft landing in Moose Meadows. The adrenaline factor ranges from intense to serene, depending on the rider! Or you can hop on an ATV and explore meadows, streams, mountains and thundering waterfalls. Keep a sharp eye for wildlife; moose, Dall sheep and bears frequent the area.
Dine in front of the big screen at the Bear Tooth Theatrepub. Unlike traditional movie houses, patrons can relax and watch a movie with a pitcher of locally brewed beer and fresh, made-to-order food. Films tend to be independent or second-run and rotate frequently. Whether it’s an old favorite or a movie you missed, tickets for most movies are under $5. The menu features gourmet tacos, pizzas and fantastic desserts.
