Sample some of the best food Anchorage has to offer, burn calories and raise money for charity during the 17th annual Visitor Industry Charity Walk on Friday, May 13, 2016. Register now.
The walk starts at the Dena’ina Civic and Convention Center at 6 p.m., and travels through downtown Anchorage, stopping for tasty snacks at food stations hosted by restaurants and hoteliers along the route. This 5K event, also known as the “Graze to Raise,” returns to the Dena’ina Center for the grand finale featuring desserts, live entertainment, a beer and wine garden, children’s activities and prize drawings.
Everyone in the community is invited to take part as an individual or as part of a team. Prices for those who register by May 8 are $35 for adults (18 and older) and $20 for children. Kids under five are free, but they must be registered. Prices for late registration increase by $10 per person on May 9.
The Visitor Industry Charity Walk was established in 2000 to raise awareness about the many ways in which Anchorage’s tourism industry gives back to the community. Last year, nearly $47,000 was distributed to 57 teams. This year’s event features a premium sponsor, Alaska Airlines, which has agreed to a multi-year sponsorship of the Visitor Industry Charity Walk in Anchorage.
“This is a unique opportunity to show our long-term commitment to Alaska, tourism and the many nonprofits who make our state a better place to live,” said Scott Habberstad, Director of Regional Sales & Community Marketing for Alaska Airlines.
The underwriting by Alaska Airlines will provide financial stability for the event as it continues to evolve its online presence and extend its reach to charitable groups. This year’s event will also be the first year that Helping Anchorage, the charitable arm of Visit Anchorage, will be providing fiduciary oversight and assisting in the recruitment of volunteers for the walk.
