The coffee craze may have started in Seattle, but it has taken root in Anchorage. The city leads the nation in coffee shops and drive-up huts, with nearly three per 10,000 people. Sample a steaming cup of java from one of several local roasters or a selection of organic coffees and calming teas.

Chocoholics will find comfort in chocolate lounges that feature signature drinking chocolates in addition to the customary full espresso bar. House-made, hand-crafted artisan truffles complement the day’s beverage of choice.

A cup of Joe isn’t the only drink brewing in Anchorage.

Local brewers tap frothy favorites capturing the essence of Alaska – Polar Pale Ale, Arctic Rhino Coffee Porter, Sleeping Lady Fish On and BrewHouse Blonde, to name a few. Many local breweries have also honed the perfect pairings for their sprawling ale lists, establishing a reputation as some of the finer restaurants and eateries in town.

Monthly events such as Moose's Tooth Pub & Pizzeria’s First Tap at celebrate a new release, but as the new year rolls around craft brewers are busy preparing their frosty favorites for the Great Alaska Beer & Barley Wine Festival. Originally designed to showcase Alaska's fermented pride, the festival now features a huge collection of American-made beers along with foamy treats from around the globe. For beer savvy connoisseurs and anyone who appreciates a good mug of suds - it's Beervana!
