Seafood Gone Wild

Get the finest Alaska seafood shipped to you direct from the source. Individually or commercially caught, salmon, king crab, halibut and other wild-caught seafood can be delivered overnight right to your home by local seafood and game processers.

Smoked Alaska salmon is a savored delicacy in Alaska, and it’s easy to transport in nonperishable form. Alaska Natives traditionally dried and smoked fish as part of a subsistence lifestyle that many still practice. Today, the legendary flavor and texture make an excellent addition to pastas, chowders and dips.

Berry Alaska

Almost four dozen varieties of berries can be found in the wild areas of Alaska. Near Anchorage, trails and slopes of surrounding mountains in the Chugach Forest are covered with magenta fireweed and bushes loaded with ripe, juicy berries. Find these succulent morsels in locally made jellies and jams, candy, syrups, and baked goods, and featured as seasonal menu items. Berries are ripe for picking in late August and early September.

Fireweed is probably Alaska’s most visible wildflower, painting entire hillsides and meadows in rich hues of rose and magenta. In the tradition of resourceful Alaska homesteaders, the blossoms are used in jellies, honey and more. Be sure and take some home with you. These products aren’t often found outside Alaska.

If you don’t have time to forage in the forest you can fill your bucket at Alaska Wild Berry Products. Load up on jams, jellies, chocolate-covered blueberries, raspberries and cranberries, an assortment of chocolate candies made with wild berry jelly centers, chocolate gift baskets and more made right on the premises. Build in some extra time to tour the grounds and check out the 20-foot chocolate waterfall.

A Brew like No Other

With 19 hours of daylight in the summer and 5 hours in the winter, Anchorage knows coffee. The Big Wild Life™ blend created by Kaladi Brothers Coffee is definitely big, wild and bold with earthy tones and a hint of chocolate. Pick up a bag at the Visit Anchorage Information Center in downtown Anchorage, at Anchorage markets where Kaladi brand coffees are sold and at Kaladi Brothers locations.

All That and a Bag of Chips

Potato chips made from Alaska Grown potatoes come in a variety of flavors including Grizzly Chips, Volcano Chips and Chilkoot Chips by the Alaska Chip Company. Made from all-natural ingredients with no preservatives, chips are served in many of Alaska’s most popular travel destinations, on planes, trains and boats. You can also pick up a bag at most grocery and convenience stores.

Check out Anchorage outdoor markets to sample more Alaska home-grown goodies. The Anchorage Market and Festival sets up shop weekends in summer at the corner of Third Avenue and E Street.
