Big Wild LGBT Celebrations

PrideFest is a great time to be in Anchorage. Typically held in mid to late June, this week-long celebration includes the state’s largest LGBT-focused parade, Pride on the Park Strip and a variety of other events. All events are anchored around a central theme.

If you’re not planning to participate in the parade, find a spot to enjoy the view from sidewalks along the route. The course winds through downtown Anchorage ending at the Park Strip. The parade features flamboyant floats and numerous groups of supporters, often dressed in colorful costumes.

Next stop is Pride on the Park Strip, a full day festival in downtown Anchorage with activities for the entire family. Bring a lawn chair or blanket and soak in the sun and ambiance. At the hub is Center Stage where performances, live music and speeches take place. Hungry? Food stands are plentiful. Find a variety of merchandise and information at vendor and event sponsor booths. Face painting and a variety of kids’ games round out the day’s offerings.

There area a host of other LGBT happenings during the week, including Drag Queen Bingo, coronation events, art exhibitions, theatre performances and a variety of other entertainment options. Be sure to check out www.identityinc.org for dates, times and locations.
