You could easily fill your calendar – not to mention your camera’s memory card and your shopping bag – with can’t-miss annual festivals and events in Anchorage.
Alaskans will use just about any occasion as a reason to celebrate, and they've even invented a few new ones of their own. Alaska’s history and culture are constant sources of celebration, as are Alaska’s artists – whether their craft is performance, paint, music, dance, dining or drink.
Events are a window on Anchorage’s residents – for every club, cause, cultural group and concert promoter, there’s a happening. Some are multiday, citywide celebrations that take place in Anchorage’s parks and auditoriums. Others are quiet and even quirky neighborhood jams and weekly farmers’ markets. Heck, there are even a few premiere parties set in the woods.
Elite athletes also take a considerable spotlight, wowing fans on the slopes, the trails the field and the court. The nation’s best skiers and basketball players and the state’s best runners compete here, as do some of the most talented athletes in Alaska Native games. Not every competitor is on two feet either; sled dogs sprint across town and cruise from Anchorage to Nome. But don't stay on the sideline, anyone can compete with the best of them. So join a fun run, steer an outhouse, find a pick-up game or hop on the runners of a dogsled.
Anchorage residents also love to revel in the area’s landscapes and seasons. We light the sky on New Years Eve. We let our hair down and celebrate Alaska’s winter fun at Anchorage Fur Rendezvous. We bring in spring by skiing across frigid water, soak up summer by dancing under the midnight sun, and fiddle and frolic through fall.
No matter how you prefer to party, Anchorage has an event or festival that fits your definition of fun. Stay tuned to the Anchorage Calendar of Events for details.
