Anchorage is the largest and most well-known city in Alaska. With its diverse population and abundance of activities, there are plenty of things for the LGBT traveler to experience. From parades and picnics to drag queens and shows, there’s something for everyone in the land of the midnight sun.

1. Alaska Pride Week and Festival

Typically held the third week of June, this summer solstice parade and festival celebrates LGBT pride in Alaska with a week of events, including Drag Queen Bingo; Burlesque shows; Mr., Ms. and Miss Gay Alaska pageants and numerous art exhibits.

2. Celebration of Change

Local group, Radical Arts for Women, rejoices in the changing of the season each spring with its “break up” performance art show celebrating women, music and art in Anchorage.

3. Coronation

An extravaganza of performances in Anchorage during Labor Day weekend invests a new Emperor and Empress of the Imperial Court of All Alaska (ICOAA), the oldest gay community organization in Anchorage, offering scholarships and grants to LGBT community members and supporters.

4. LGBT Pride Picnic

Head to Kincaid Park Memorial Day to kick off the start of summer and celebrate unity in the community. This family-friendly event boasts delicious food and games in the Alaska’s unparalleled outdoors.

5. Mad Myrna’s Diva Variety Show

Mad Myrna’s is home to the TOP SHELF divas who perform every Friday. Each week has a different themed show sure to keep toes tapping and lips smacking!
