4/13/04 - 5th Annual Visitor Industry Charity Walk

News Release

Anchorage, AK – April 13, 2004

“GRAZE TO RAISE”

Join Alaska’s tourism industry to fill tummies and hearts at the 5th Annual Visitor Industry Charity Walk (VICW), Friday, May 7, 2004. More than 3,000 grazers are expected to participate in the 5 km buffet, which raises money for non-profit Alaska charities.

“As the states second largest industry, tourism has the collective ability to make a significant contribution to our community. Since its inception, the VICW has raised more than $380,000 for local charities,” said Tony Hancuff, regional manager of Gray Line of Alaska and this year’s chair. “I am confident we will surpass our goal of $150,000 this year.”

The VICW will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Park Strip near 9th Avenue and M Street in Anchorage. Food villas will be set up along the walk route for walkers to graze along the route. Participants will end at the Park Strip for a grand finale WOW event that features yummy desserts, great prizes, a beer and wine tent, carnival games and much more!

Teams that raise $500 or more can designate the funds they raise to the nonprofit 501(C)(3) organization of their choice. To receive a team packet, call 276-5554. Funds raised by individual walkers benefit non-profit Alaska charities. The minimum registration donation is $30 per adult and $15 per child (ages 5-18). Late registration (after May 6, 2004) is a minimum of $40 per adult and $25 per child.

Last year, 58 Alaska charities received a total of $127,000. VICW’s also are scheduled for Fairbanks, Juneau and Ketchikan. For more information, call the VICW hotline at (907) 276-5554 or visit the Web site www.alaskacharitywalk.org.

The Alaska Visitor Industry Charity Walk was established in 2000 to celebrate the tourism industry’s commitment to the community. The Alaska visitor industry, created the fun, community event to raise money for local nonprofit 501(C)(3) organizations. Generous event sponsors and volunteers enable expenses to be kept at a minimum, allowing the bulk of the proceeds to go to charity. # # #
