Girdwood, Alaska – March 18, 2004

Thirty-six women and 60 men will compete in today's FIS Downhill, the first official race in the Chevrolet 2004 US Alpine Championships at Alyeska Resort, taking place March 18-23, 2004. Women's event begins at 11 a.m., the men's at 12:30 p.m.

Four Alaska women: Suki Horton, Morgan Gose, Brittany Mumma, and Melinda Bartel will be competing in today's event.

Three of the men racing today are from University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA): Einar-Marius Elvrum, Christian Ringvold and David Duncan. Seven Alaskan are among the male downhill racers: Andre Horton, Charles Christianson, Elliot G. Daniels, John Love, Rory Casey, Nick Therrien, and Kyle Kung.

Spectators can see the action from the finish line, in front of the Daylodge, or on-mountain from the top of the Spirit Quad or the top tram station.
