First Downhill Training Run Features Alaskans And Alyeska Ski Club Members
Several Alaskans and Alyeska Ski Club members are amongst the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA) skiers training for the Downhill FIS races slated to begin March 18, 2004, and the Downhill Championships slated for March 19, 2004.
The first women’s downhill training run begins at 11 a.m. today. Alaska skier Suki Horton is among the 36 women training today. Two Alyeska Ski Club members – Melinda Bartel and Brittany Mumma – will also be training. Other USSA ski team members include Lindsey Kildow, Julia Mancuso, Jonna Mendes, and Libby Ludlow, to name a few.
The first men’s downhill training run begins at 12:30 p.m. today. Alaska skiers Charles Christianson, Andre Horton, Elliot Daniels, and Kyle Kung are among the 63 men training today. Three Alyeska Ski Club members will also be training: John Love, Rory Casey and Nick Therrien.
Training races take part in the Alyeska Bowl and Gelende Trail, with the finish just behind the Daylodge. The course start is at 1091M above sea level, the finish at 92M above sea level, with a vertical drop of 999M.
