HOOP IT UP IN ALASKA IN 2004
The University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) announced the lineup for the 2004 Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout basketball tournament at the annual Tip-Off Luncheon, Dec. 3, 2003. The exciting, early season men’s and women’s collegiate basketball tournament will take place in Anchorage at the Sullivan Arena, Nov. 24 – 27, 2004.
The 2004 Great Alaska Shootout men’s field includes the Alabama Crimson Tide, Minnesota Golden Gophers, Oklahoma Sooners, Utah Runnin' Utes, Furman Paladins, Washington Huskies, High Point Panthers and the host team UAA Seawolves.
UAA announced three out of the four women’s team for the Shootout; the Minnesota Golden Gophers will make their first appearance since winning the title in 1982, the Stanford Cardinal and the host team, Alaska Anchorage Seawolves.
The 2003 Carr/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout brought out more than 50,000 visitors and locals filled the Sullivan Arena for the pre-season tournament and watched Purdue upset Duke to capture the 26th Annual Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout title.
