NORTH ANCHORAGE VISITOR INFORMATION CENTER OPENS
The Anchorage Convention & Visitors Bureau (ACVB) North Anchorage Visitor Information Center (VIC) recently opened at the Eagle River Microtel Inn & Suites.
“Eagle River is an important travel destination within the Anchorage bowl. The average south bound traveler from the Glenn Highway enters the Municipality of Anchorage at Eklutna and the first opportunity to receive information about Anchorage is at the new North Anchorage VIC, at the Eagle River Microtel Inn & Suites,” said Julie Saupe, director of ACVB Community Member and Visitor Relations.
The North Anchorage VIC is staffed by volunteers Monday through Friday. Eventually it will be staffed seven days a week.
The Eagle River Microtel Inn & Suites opened June 1, 2003, and has 60 clean, comfortable rooms. John Emmi, Ernest Emmi and Martinus List, the three Alaskan owners, gave the Eagle River Microtel Inn & Suites an Alaskan feel with a river rock fireplace in the lobby and numerous wildlife paintings.
The previous North Anchorage VIC, located at the Parkgate Building, was a busy, self-service center. The new staffed location will provide better service to visitors and residents.
The Anchorage Convention & Visitors Bureau’s mission is to attract and serve visitors to the Municipality of Anchorage. ACVB’s marketing functions are funded by half of the bed tax collected by hotels. The other half goes to the Municipality’s general fund. ACVB receives no state or federal funds.
