NEWS RELEASE

Anchorage, Alaska - April 17, 2003

Celebrate Spring With Seymour Fun Run

It’s time to dust off those running shoes and have some fun! The Anchorage Convention and Visitors Bureau (ACVB) is proud to present the 11th Annual Seymour Fun Run on Sunday, May 4. The race, done in partnership with the Anchorage Trails and Greenways Coalition, is held to raise awareness about the city’s trails and greenbelts.

The 5km race attracts more than 400 people each year and allows participants of all levels to join in the fun – runners and walkers, competitive or not. The race begins at 10 a.m. at Second Avenue and E Street. Seymour, ACVB’s beloved mascot, will be on hand to welcome outdoor enthusiasts of all ages.

To participate, register online at www.runanchorage.com or stop by the ACVB Visitor Information Center behind the Log Cabin at the corner of Fourth Avenue and D Street. ACVB will also hold registration the two weekends prior to the race. The first chance to pick up your bib and t-shirt will be April 19, at the University Center, from 2-5 p.m. The second opportunity will be on April 27, at The Mall at Sears, 1-3 p.m., next to the ACVB computer information kiosk. Those wishing to register by mail must have their forms postmarked by April 26. Online registration will be accepted until midnight, May 2. Registration is $12 for individuals and $40 per family. The day of the race, registration begins at 9 a.m. and is $20 per person. Participants who register before race day will receive a t-shirt when they pick up their race packets. Children 14 years old and younger will receive a medallion from Seymour at the finish line on race day.

A post-race celebration with snacks and door prizes at Snow Goose Restaurant & Sleeping Lady Brewing Company immediately after the race. Prizes will be given to the top male and female finishers in all age groups. Awards will also be given to the largest group or team that enters the race.

Sponsors for this year’s race include the Hampton Inn, Hilton Garden Inn, Snow Goose Restaurant & Sleeping Lady Brewing Company, and the Anchorage Trails & Greenways Coalition.

The Anchorage Convention & Visitors Bureau’s mission is to attract and serve visitors to the Municipality of Anchorage. ACVB’s marketing functions are funded by half of the bed tax collected by hotels. The other half goes to the Municipality’s general fund. ACVB receives no state or federal funds.
