Mayor's Marathon and Half Marathon

Anchorage, Alaska - Saturday, June 23, 2007
Each year, Mayor's Marathon and Half Marathon attracts up to 4,500 runners, including Alaskans and premiere runners from around the world.
Organized by the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) and Anchorage Parks & Recreation, five running races are held simultaneously - including a Marathon (26.2 miles), Half Marathon (13.1 miles), a Five Miler recreational event (5.61 miles), a Marathon Relay (7, 8, 6.5 and 6.5 mile legs) and the Youth Cup (1.6 miles).
The Course
The course takes marathoners from the foothills of the Chugach Mountains on the east side of Anchorage, to the steely waters of Cook Inlet on the west - offering breathtaking scenery to stimulate the senses and take one's worries off physical exertion. On a clear race day, look for North America’s tallest mountain, Mount McKinley (20,320’), a peak in one of six mountain ranges visible from Anchorage. Course Information.
Shuttle Transportation
Free shuttle buses are available to take runners to the marathon start from most major hotels before the start. Shuttles will also be available from the finish line back to hotels and to the marathon start. Download the Shuttle Bus Schedule and find answers to other Frequently Asked Questions at the Mayor’s Marathon Web site.
The National Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s “Team in Training” program has been sending runners to this event since 1994, which has helped the Mayor's Marathon and Half Marathon to grow each year, and to attract top runners from outside of Alaska.
