Anchorage Convention and Visitors Bureau

Department Details

The Anchorage Convention & Visitors Bureau has 41 employees, approximately 120 volunteers and registration assistants and more than 1,200 members. In addition to the President’s Office, the Bureau has four departments:

Communications & Marketing Programs (COMM) Community, Member and Visitor Relations (CMVR) Convention and Meeting Sales & Service (CMSS) Tourism Development & Sales (TDS) The Anchorage Convention & Visitors Bureau’s departments work together to bring and serve visitors to Anchorage. The President’s Office oversees the process.

President’s Office

The President’s Office consists of the President & CEO, Human Resources, Accounting and an executive assistant. The president works directly with the Board of Directors, staff and members, and oversees the entire operation of the Bureau.

The guiding principles and objectives that the president considers while conducting the day-to-day operations of the Bureau are ACVB’s Mission Statement, the goals outlined in the Annual Plan, and the execution of the Plan developed with and approved by the Board of Directors.

The president serves as ACVB’s corporate officer. The president is the primary contact for many organizations, positioning the Bureau and the Anchorage-based visitor industry in major marketing and political movements, statewide and nationally. All of these boards serve ACVB members and the community by leveraging resources with public and privately funded travel-related programs.

Human Resources conducts hiring and training of Bureau staff, and ensures compliance with federal, state and municipal regulations. Accounting is responsible for all financial aspects of the Bureau, including payroll, and providing clean annual audit reports.

Communications & Marketing Programs (COMM)

COMM is responsible for local, statewide, national and international public relations, advertising, marketing, graphics, branding, image, Internet (www.Anchorage.net), and collateral development for ACVB. The combined efforts provide important recognition and identity that benefits all departments and the Bureau as an organization on several levels.

Community, Member & Visitor Relations (CMVR)

CMVR is responsible for bringing new members into the Bureau, retaining the current membership base, providing information and resources to members and the community at large, and serving Anchorage visitors through six Visitor Information Centers (VIC). VICs are staffed by contract personnel and more than 120 trained volunteers. CMVR also hosts bureau events and member education and sells advertising for Bureau publications.

Convention and Meetings Sales & Service (CMSS)

CMSS is responsible for booking a wide range of conventions and providing service to groups while in Anchorage. ACVB is the leader in aggressively marketing Anchorage as a year-round meeting site. The CMSS department staff works to attract meetings, conventions and trade shows to Anchorage through a variety of sales activities. In addition to conventions, the department focuses on incentive groups and increasing visitation during 10 major identified events.

Tourism Development & Sales (TDS)

TDS is responsible for bringing groups and leisure visitors to Anchorage. The department works a targeted network of tour operators and travel agents through a comprehensive database. TDS pursues business that focuses on increased, year-round visitation by the group tour and leisure markets. Additionally, the department continues to focus on the largest market of visitors to Anchorage - in-state visitors - in an effort to increase the number of nights stayed in Anchorage.
