Visitor Statistics - Summer 1997 Study
The statistics displyed here were gathered during a study completed for 1997. Alaska Division of Tourism estimates for October 1998-September 1999: just over 1.4 million Outside visitors.
A three percent increase from the year before. 85 percent came May-September. 47 percent arrived by domestic airline. 38 percent arrived by cruise ship. 6 percent increase in cruise ship passengers.
Summer of 1998: 1,135,700 outside visitors in Anchorage. A 1.3 percent increase over summer 1997.
Largest number of arrivals are via Domestic Air: 48.6%, Cruise: 36%. For fall/winter 97-98: estimated 209,600 visitors.
Summer of 1997: 1,036,000 total visitors in Anchorage. (Some visitors arrive in Anchorage, travel elsewhere and then visit Anchorage again, so they were counted again by the survey.)
