Anchorage - Top Trail Town

With summer's extended daylight hours, residents often flock to the hills for an after-work hiking adventure.

With summer's extended daylight hours, residents often flock to the hills for an after-work hiking adventure.

Anchorage’s extensive trail system is one of the best in the United States, according to a past issue of Bicycling Magazine. The American Hiking Society agrees, naming Anchorage second on a recent list of Top Trail Towns.

During summer’s extended daylight hours, spend an hour or an entire day enjoying a mix of walking, hiking, biking, roller blading, and running across the city’s 128 miles (206 km) of paved trails and 300 miles (482 km) of unpaved and wilderness trails. Surrounding state and national parks offer endless hiking options.

Anchorage’s bus system, People Mover, stops conveniently near many trailheads, and most buses have racks to accommodate bicycles. For route information, call the People Mover Ride Line at (907) 343-6543.
