Anchorage Summer Activities
Anchorage is base camp to world-class sportfishing, with a salmon stream that runs right through downtown.
Adventures in Anchorage range from huge to epic to downright gargantuan.
Flightsee over vast, snow-covered mountains, reel in fresh Alaska king salmon, dog sled on icy glaciers or hike across a rainforest – living large just comes naturally.
Summer Sun
Scratch an early bedtime off your “to-do” list and prepare to wake up early! With Anchorage’s extended summer daylight hours, outdoor enthusiasts pack in a lot of adventure.
Chugach State Park
Chugach State Park is nothing short of spectacular. The half a million (yes, half a million!) acres promise plenty of room for excellent adventure, with nearly 30 trails suitable for short hikes, weeklong backpacking and mountain biking.
“State Park” might sound mundane, but don’t be fooled; it’s real wilderness, home to Dall sheep, mountain goats, brown bears, and several packs of wolves residing on the edge of Anchorage.
Heart-Pumping Excitement!
Getting to the unexplored wilderness surrounding Anchorage is easy. Deciding how to get there is part of the fun! Want to get your heart pumping a little faster? Hop on an ATV! Trek across beautiful meadows, streams, majestic mountains and waterfalls on foot, horse or mountain bike.
For those who aren’t afraid to get wet, kayaking, canoeing or rafting offer stunning experiences.
However you get there, make sure to stop a few times and indulge in the sights, smells and tranquility of backcountry Alaska.
