Seward, Alaska
Continue south down the Seward Highway to the Kenai Peninsula and Seward. Nestled between the Kenai Mountains and Resurrection Bay, Seward is a small port town alive with colorful shops and a busy harbor.
Look for Exit Glacier as you enter Seward. This icy blue giant is slowly carving its way across the mountainside. A half-mile (.8 km) trail gets you up close to see its awesome force. The Exit Glacier Ranger Station is open May through October. Most activities are centered on beautiful Resurrection Bay and the Kenai Fjords National Park. Options include halibut or salmon fishing, hiking, sea kayaking and sailing. Dog sled tours and glacier/wildlife cruises are available year-round.
Visit the Alaska SeaLife Center, the only cold-water marine research center in the Western Hemisphere. Witness a 1000-pound Steller sea lion gliding past underwater viewing windows, puffins diving in a carefully crafted naturalistic habitat, and harbor seals hauled out on rocky beaches. Alaskan king crab, sea stars, and the Giant Pacific octopus also await. Open year-round. Web site
