The arts in Anchorage are as diverse as the Alaska landscape, with countless opportunities to enjoy the extraordinary talent of local performers and artisans.

Explore the Anchorage Calendar of Events to find a season-long list of performing and visual art events.

First Friday Art Shows

Visual artists are in the spotlight the first Friday of each month when Anchorage art galleries stay open late to celebrate new works by local artists. A map for participating galleries is included in the Thursday edition of the Anchorage Press publication, one day prior.

Music in the Park

Summer noon-hour concerts attract office workers, families and visitors who enjoy lunch "al fresco" while listening to local musicians. Part of the Summer in the City concert and theatre series happening in Anchorage each summer. www.anchoragedowntown.org

Wild Salmon on Parade

Wacky, whimsical, and definitely wild, salmon statues are displayed throughout downtown Anchorage each summer in celebration of Alaska’s unique salmon resource. Check out 2003, 2004 and 2005 Wild Salmon statues at www.Anchorage.net/salmon.

Anchorage Museum

A world-class museum located in the heart of Alaska’s largest city, the Anchorage Museum at Rasmuson Center is the largest museum in Alaska. Expanded in 2009, the new addition features a shimmering glass facade designed to reflect Alaska's natural splendor. Through a combination of art, history and science the Anchorage Museum creates a rich, deep understanding of the human experience and offers something for everyone. www.anchoragemuseum.org.

A Museum Without Walls

In 1998, Alaska pioneered 1% for Art, establishing a requirement that one percent of all public construction budgets go toward permanent art incorporated into the project. Today, there are more than 411 pieces of public art worth more than $11 million on display from Eklutna to Girdwood, thanks to the 1% for Art program. Works of art in a variety of scales and media include two-dimensional paintings and fiber works, in addition to sculptures, stained glass, and floor and tile work, furnishings and landscape design.

Alaska Center for the Performing Arts

The PAC, as referred to by locals, hosts a wide range of world-class performances year-round. Performance groups can also be found on smaller stages, and it’s not uncommon to find musicians jamming in local coffee shops. Get tickets at centertix.net
