Get the Best Seat of the Iditarod: The Basket of One of the Dog Sleds

ANCHORAGE, ALASKA – Jan. 8, 2010 – It’s nearly impossible to talk your way into the passenger seat of a race car, or ride piggy back with the reigning track and field champ, but a once in a lifetime opportunity to ride with the fastest is still available at the 2010 Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race®.

Riding in the basket in front of each musher, Idita-Riders have the best seats possible for the first 11 miles of the Iditarod. The excitement begins Saturday, March 6, 2010, on the streets of downtown Anchorage, Alaska, teams of 16 dogs bolts down snow-covered Fourth Avenue. Bundled up just in front of the musher, Idita-Riders experience the rush of cheering crowds along the streets at the start line and an exhilarating ride through the woods and trails that surround Anchorage. Idita-Riders also meet personally with their musher over a casual lunch on Thursday before the ceremonial start.

Minimum bids start at $500 but riders can guarantee a sled of their choice with a $7,500 bid. 2010 Idita-Rider bids can be made online at www.iditarodauction.com anytime, but the closing date for the Auction is Jan. 22, 2010.

Seventy-one mushers have signed up to participate in the 2010 Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race®. For more information on the Iditarod or to learn more about the Idita-Rider Auction, visit www.iditarod.com. For additional Anchorage adventures, explore www.anchorage.net.
