The Magic of Summer

Days seem endless. Dazzling displays of flowers adorn parks and storefronts. Artists and farmers sell goods at open-air markets. Wild Salmon on Parade sculptures appear along city blocks while kings and silvers are caught just down the hill in Ship Creek. Alaska summer is definitely in full swing, and there are plenty of ways to keep visitors entertained.

Grab a reindeer sausage and enjoy lunch "al fresco" to music during Downtown Summer in the City – a series of ongoing summer concerts and events. Cuddle sled dog puppies at Seavey’s Wild Ride Sled Dog Rodeo. Pull yourself across Winner Creek Gorge in a hand tram. Stay up late to enjoy the midnight sun during Anchorage’s summer solstice celebration.

These are just a few ideas from 50 Ways to Explore Anchorage.

Seymour's Tip of the Month

Anchorage fishing is off the hook! Check out Seymour's favorite fishing holes or get connected with a local fishing guide who can show you where to reel in the catch of the day.

Alaska Statehood Celebration and Hero Games

Downtown Anchorage will be the place to be, Saturday, June 27, 2009, when statehood celebrations continue with a 5-block festival followed by a good ol’ fashioned street dance.

Three performance stages featuring five decades of song and dance, the G Street Artists Fair, antique car show, outdoor cafes and sidewalk sales, 1950’s science fun with the Imaginarium, a GIANT sandbox and the Anchortown Circus – this is one serious celebration!

The highlight of the event is the Hero Games, which pits teams from the police, troopers, fire department and military in “friendly” challenges such as “rescue the cat” climb, the bucket brigade and tricycle races.

The 2009/2010 Friends of Seymour Club is presented in partnership with 26 Glacier Cruise and Phillips Cruises & Tours.
