ACVB Garners Top Honors: Official Anchorage Visitors Guide takes best in show at PRSA Aurora Awards Banquet
Anchorage, Alaska – Jan. 29, 2009 – The Anchorage Convention & Visitors Bureau (ACVB) recently received the Best in Show, Award of Excellence for the 2008 Official Anchorage Visitors Guide, along with six additional communications awards for other marketing and public relations efforts from the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) Alaska Chapter, during the Aurora Awards Banquet, held Jan. 21, 2009. The awards banquet takes place each year to recognize excellence in two areas, Aurora Awards and Awards of Excellence. Aurora Awards honor comprehensive public relations campaign within six categories: public and community service, special events and observances, public affairs, marketing communications, and special public relations campaigns. The Awards of Excellence recognizes the design, creation and production of a single public relations tool within 18 categories: annual report, internal publication, external publication, direct mail solicitation, special printed promotional materials, news/feature story release, news/feature story placement, news conference, exhibits and displays, video material, radio material, website, and special electronic promotional material. This year’s awards were judged by the PRSA Chapter of Albuquerque, N.M.

The Anchorage Convention & Visitors Bureau’s (ACVB) mission is to attract and serve visitors to the Municipality of Anchorage as a Destination Marketing Organization (DMO). ACVB’s marketing functions are funded by one-third of the bed tax collected by lodging associations. One-third goes to the Municipality’s general fund, a contribution established in 1978, and one-third to service the bond debt and operations of the Anchorage Convention Centers.
