Alaska Jobs Readily Available for Job Seekers at the 10th Annual Visitor Industry Job Fair
Anchorage, Alaska – Nov. 26, 2008 – The national economy may be hurting, but Alaska jobs are plentiful. Eager job seekers can find rewarding immediate and summer employment opportunities at the 10th Annual Holiday Break Visitor Industry Job Fair, Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2008, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., at the William A. Egan Civic & Convention Center.
This is the ideal time for college students, home for winter break to get a head start on looking for summer employment, or even for seasonal employees to fill those empty summer months with a steady paycheck.
“When we began this event 10 years ago, we hoped it would grow into a job fair that employers and job seekers alike really count on each year, and it definitely has become that. Each year more qualified applicants show up, and the range of employers and diversity of opportunities available just keeps growing,” says Steve Halloran, ACVB vice president of Community, Member & Visitor Relations.
Last year an estimated 500 job seekers attended, eagerly awaiting employment opportunities with nearly 30 different employers in the visitor industry, including: Alaska Coach Tours, Morris Communications, Nana Management Services, Premier Alaska Tours, Princess Tours, Holland America, Enterprise Rent-a-Car, Alaska Airlines and many more.
“The company I work for has hired from this job fair and I personally know of folks in the industry who were hired from this job fair and have moved into management positions. There are literally thousands of summer positions that need to be filled and these employers want to fill them with Alaskans.” says Kelly Bender, general manager for CIRI Alaska Tourism.
Employers interested in participating can register online at www.Anchorage.net/rsvp or by calling Kari Coleman at (907) 257-2321. Registration cost is $150 for members and $160 for non-members, if received by early registration deadline: Dec. 14, 2008, $175 for late registration.
The Anchorage Convention & Visitors Bureau (ACVB), Anchorage Chamber of Commerce, and the Alaska Travel Industry Association (ATIA) Anchorage Chapter sponsor the job fair.
The Anchorage Convention & Visitors Bureau’s (ACVB) mission is to attract and serve visitors to the Municipality of Anchorage as a Destination Marketing Organization (DMO). ACVB’s marketing functions are funded by one-third of the bed tax collected by lodging associations. One-third goes to the Municipality’s general fund, a contribution established in 1978, and one-third goes to the construction and annual maintenance costs of the Dena'ina Civic and Convention Center and the William A. Egan Civic & Convention Center. ACVB receives no state or federal funds. Explore www.Anchorage.net for more information.
