Media Advisory: Dena’ina Civic and Convention Center Ribbon Cutting and Blessing


WHO:
Anchorage Convention & Visitors Bureau (ACVB) and the Municipality of Anchorage

    Ribbon Cutting Speakers (outside corner of F and 7th): Mayor Mark Begich; ACVB President & CEO Julie Saupe; Dena’ina Cultural Historian Aaron Leggett; Village of Eklutna Elder Alberta Stephan, and ACVB Board President Steve Silverstein (emcee) Mayor Begich and Julie Saupe will “cut the banner ribbon” on a dog sled driven by Martin Buser.

    Plaque dedication (inside first floor lobby): Mayor Mark Begich, Dena’ina Cultural Historian Aaron Leggett, Village of Eklutna Elder Alberta Stephan, and Roberta Holtan, widow of Howard Holtan, the late city engineer who helped oversee the construction of the Dena’ina Center

WHAT:
Anchorage Convention & Visitors Bureau (ACVB) and the Municipality of Anchorage

    The official ribbon cutting and cultural blessing for the new Dena’ina Civic and Convention Center, scheduled for 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 18, 2008, followed by a thank-you plaque dedication in first floor lobby. This kicks off two, full, fun-filled days of FREE events and activities showcasing the Dena’ina Center and the Anchorage Convention District.

Dena’ina Civic and Convention Center Public Opening Celebration


WHAT:

    What options do meeting and convention planners, trade show organizers and event managers have in Anchorage? Find out Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 18 – 19, 2008, at the Dena’ina Civic and Convention Center Public Opening Celebration.

    Explore the Anchorage Convention District, anchored by the new 200,000-square-foot Dena’ina Center to the south and the William A. Egan Civic & Convention Center to the north. Enjoy two, full, fun-filled days of free, live entertainment, fashion shows, celebrities, athletes, Olympians, working Alaska Native artists, wild life demonstrations, meeting room demos, street fair, and more.

    Events and activities will take place inside and outside the Dena’ina Center, along Seventh Avenue between F and G Streets, Town Square, and at the Egan Center. Includes free admission to the Oxygen & Octane EXPO, a winter outdoors adventure show featuring big winter toys for adults Oct. 17 – 19, 2008, in the Dena’ina Center Exhibition Hall, and free admission to Warren Miller films Sunday, Oct. 19, 2008, at the Egan Center.
