The Mayor's Awards for the Arts recognizes individuals and organizations in the Municipality of Anchorage who have contributed to the artistic culture of our community through their talent, time, and support.
All nominees should be current residents of the Municipality of Anchorage, with the exception of the Individual Artist Award. In that case, the nominee must have produced the majority of his or her work while a resident of Anchorage. The categories include artists and arts groups from the performing, visual and literary arts.

Plan to join Anchorage's Acting Mayor Matt Claman for the 2009 Mayor's Awards for the Arts, on Wednesday, April 8th from 5:30 - 7 p.m. at the Dena'ina Center in downtown Anchorage. The winners for 2009 are:
- Outstanding Individual Artist Award: Garry Kaulitz
- Outstanding Arts Organization Award: Alaska Junior Theater
- Champion of the Arts Award: Julie Decker
- Youth Arts Award: Alaska Native Heritage Center's High School Program
- Kay Linton Volunteer for the Arts: Connie Ozer
- Lorene Harrison Award for Lifetime Achievement: William Bacon
There will be excitement, entertainment by the Russian American Colony Singers, hors d'ouevres, and a no-host bar. We'll see you there!
