Alaska 50th Anniversary of Statehood Delegate’s Reception
The signing will take place at about 2:30 p.m. “This act symbolizes our commitment to working together to fulfill Alaska’s extraordinary potential,” Said Tennys Owens, co-planner and coordinator for the Anchorage Statehood Celebration. Copies of the pledge will be sent to each delegate as well as to school districts statewide.
Alaska Artists and Quilters Create Commemorative 50th Anniversary of Statehood Quilt
The project was advertised through members of the Alaska Fiber Festival, quilting shops and invitational letters sent to all the mayors throughout the state. The response was overwhelming; 58 quilt blocks measuring 24” x 30” were submitted by 147 artists from 22 towns across the state. The blocks were created by both individual artists and collaborations of artists within the different communities, 56 of them were completely original designs.
Alaska 50th Anniversary of Statehood Gala
Dignitaries and Alaskans from all over the state will come together in style on the eve of Alaska’s Golden Anniversary, Friday, Jan. 2, 2009, for a formal gala event celebrating 50 years of Statehood, in the new Dena’ina Civic and Convention Center in downtown Anchorage.
Alaska 50th Anniversary of Statehood Day
The celebration begins about 3:30 p.m. with a procession of delegates representing towns and villages from across Alaska followed by the ceremonial lighting of the Light of the North, a Beacon to the Future, at the corner of 7th Avenue and E Street. Delegates were chosen by their communities as representatives in the statewide celebration in Anchorage. Each will carry a sign identifying the community he/she is representing as well as a torch.
Wynonna Judd Kicks Off 50th Anniversary of Statehood Celebration
