Is Seymour Smarter Than A Seventh Grader?: Anchorage Trivia Gets a Big.Wild. Twist. At Annual Junior High Contest
Anchorage, Alaska –April 24, 2008 –How many moose can be found within the Anchorage area? What is the city’s most popular hike? Where can adventure seekers geocache in Anchorage? These are just a few of the questions Anchorage 7th graders will answer as they take on their peers at the William A. Egan Civic & Convention Center, Thursday, Apr. 24, 2008 at 11:30 a.m. during the Big. Wild. Life. Trivia Contest sponsored by the Anchorage Convention & Visitors Bureau (ACVB).
“The trivia contest is a fun way for students to learn more about their city and the invaluable role tourism plays as an economic engine for Anchorage,” says Julie Saupe, ACVB president & CEO. “Adults who watch the contest are always amazed by how much they learn. Anchorage is an amazing place and ACVB is proud to be a part of educating our city’s young people about the beautiful area in which they live.”
Seven Anchorage middle schools will vie to be the Big. Wild. Winner. at this year’s contest. The contestants will be quizzed on more than 100 questions by Master of Ceremonies, Cary Carrigan and will be judged by KGOT’s Scott & Stu, U.S. Olympic Bronze Medalist, Rosey Fletcher and last year’s contest winner, Dylan Hardenbergh from Golden View Middle School.
All the winners are awarded several prizes from ACVB membership. This year’s prizes include:

Students in teacher Janna Walker’s class at Central Middle School work behind the scenes for several months each year to organize the Big.Wild.Life.™ Trivia Contest. The students handle all aspects of the event, including booking facilities at the William A. Egan Civic & Convention Center, serving as timekeepers and event planners, inviting the media to come to the contest and acting as the ACVB critters.
The Anchorage Convention & Visitors Bureau’s mission is to attract and serve visitors to the Municipality of Anchorage. ACVB’s marketing functions are funded by one-third of the bed tax collected by the lodging association. One-third goes to the Municipality’s general fund and one-third goes to the Dena’ina Civic and convention Center Construction project. ACVB receives no state or federal funds.
