Films Worth Freezing For! Anchorage International Film Festival Goes in for Close-Up on the Last Frontier

ANCHORAGE, ALASKA – Nov. 29, 2007– One of the coolest film events of the year kicks off tomorrow in Anchorage, Alaska. Filmmakers from around the world are descending on Alaska’s largest city for the 7th Annual Anchorage International Film Festival (AIFF), Films Worth Freezing For, Nov. 30, 2007 – Dec. 9, 2007.

“AIFF is truly a multi-faceted jewel of Anchorage and Alaska,” says Michele Miller, Executive Director of the Alaska Moving Image Preservation Association (AMIPA). “The diversity of global experiences is highlighted this year with international films from countries including Russia, Ireland, India, Argentina and Australia. The works we’ll be screening over the next two weeks are from innovative and evocative filmmakers who are taking the craft to new heights. Anchorage filmmakers love this opportunity to showcase our city and its growing film scene.”

This 10-day celluloid celebration features 150 films screened in eight of Anchorage’s trendiest venues. Films Worth Freezing For boasts entries from 25 counties and features several Alaska filmmakers from across the state. Best of Fest prizes will be awarded for mix shorts & animation, full length and short documentaries and best feature.

AIFF kicks off tomorrow night in with an opening gala to welcome international filmmakers. The Anchorage Convention & Visitors Bureau’s mission is to attract and serve visitors to the Municipality of Anchorage. ACVB’s marketing functions are funded by one-third of the bed tax collected by the lodging association. One-third goes to the Municipality’s general fund and one-third goes to the Anchorage Civic & Convention Center construction project. ACVB receives no state or federal funds.
